Accepting new patients for psychotherapy services
Dr. Kowalak is a post-doctoral fellow. She received her undergraduate degree from Canisius University and her PsyD from William James College in Boston, MA, where she also completed her masters in mental health counseling with an emphasis in couples and family therapy. She has extensive training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) modalities. In addition to utilizing CBT and other evidence-based practice to inform her work, Dr. Kowalak incorporates a humanistic perspective, with emphasis on the whole person. She has worked with many different populations, including couples, people experiencing OCD, children with autism spectrum disorder, homeless youth, adults at end of life, people experiencing grief, and survivors of sex trafficking. She also has extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and life transitions.
When she is not working, Dr. K enjoys being active and spending time with her family and friends. She loves visiting AKG and attends as many Bills games as she is able. One long-term career goal of hers is to become a sex therapist.
"I believe that there are countless ways that therapy may look, depending on what best fits the person(s) I am working with. Above all, therapy is a safe space, free of judgment, where the client is the expert in their own story. I count myself fortunate that I can share in pieces of my client’s stories with them. Although employing evidence-based practice is crucial to my work, I believe that not every approach to therapy will benefit every person and enjoy collaborating with my clients to find an approach that best suits their needs and experience."
